It is proven effective for both houseplants and yard and garden plants making it versatile and convenient.
RainGrow 4-2-3 is a balanced fertilizer as it contains all three of the most important macronutrients for plant growth and health, namely, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. It is also a highly concentrated product and must be mixed with water. Our standard mixing rate is 1 part RainGrow 4-2-3 to 100 part water so just a little goes a long way.
RainGrow 4-2-3 contains small amounts of eucalyptus and tea tree extracts which act as natural preservatives and has the added benefit of giving the product a great smell making it pleasant for indoor use.
saponins result in slight foaming of the product which is normal.
RainGrow 4-2-3 is safe and non-burning when used as directed.
Guaranteed minimum analysis:
Total Nitrogen 4%, Phosphoric Acid 2%, Available Potash 3%
Application and Use:
Measurements:
half capful = 2.5 ml = 1/2 tsp
1 capful = 5 ml = 1 tsp
2 capfuls =10 ml = 2 tsp
3 capfuls =15 ml = 3 tsp = 1 Tablespoon
3 Tablespoons = 45ml
6 Tablespoons = 90 ml = approx. 1/3 of a cup
Standard Application:
The standard application is to mix two capfuls (2 teaspoons) per litre of water to make a mixture and apply around the roots of plants every 2-3 weeks.
For larger volumes you can mix 3 Tablespoons per gallon (4 litres) of water. Apply also every 2-3 weeks.
When using a 2 gallon watering can fill with water and add 1/3 cup (approx. 6 Tablespoons) of product and mix.
Apply mixture to the roots. Increasing the frequency of applications may be done with positive effects, however, concentration per application must also be reduced.
Foliar sprays:
Foliar spraying (spraying or misting on leaves) may be done to enhance regular root feeding to give plants an extra "boost." As a foliar spray apply at half strength: adding one capful (5 ml) in a litre of water. A spray bottle may be used at fine or mist setting. Spray on leaves not flowers.
Note: Some plants such as roses have very sensitive leaves, and may require less concentration at quarter strenth or half a capful (2.5 ml) per litre. Please do a test on a leaf and check after 24 hours, before doing the whole plant. Also do not apply on leaves during the heat of the day. Do not foliar spray on "furry" leaves such as African Violets, but apply mixture from bottom of pot.
Hose-end applicator:
For lawns or larger gardens our 2 litre size covers up to 2000 sq. ft. or 200 sq. metres and has a convenient hose-end attachment. Attach the dip tube (straw) to the hose-end spray attachment with the strainer end pointing down. Place the strainer end into the bottle, thread onto the neck of the bottle, and attach the garden hose. Turn on water supply, you may have to adjust the pressure. Push the toggle switch on or off. Walk at a comfortable pace and cover lawn and your garden areas at the same time. For flower beds, spray around the roots of plants and avoid spraying directly on the flowers as the pressure may be too high.
Generally the application rate for container plants and indoor house plants is half strength: (5 ml or 1 teaspoon) for each litre of water. Many plants also benefit from misting. Use a clean spray bottle. Place half a capful to 1 capful of product per one liter bottle size. Set nozzle at a fine to medium mist.
Use RainGrow 4-2-3 as follows for these types of plants:
African Violet: Watering of African Violets and other "furry leafed" plants is best when done from the base of your container so that you do not disturb the delicate leaves and cause burning or leaf damage. Use at 1-2 capfuls (5 -10 ml) to a litre of water for most violets. If severely stressed and needing extra attention due to under watering or heat exhaustion add additionally 1 tsp of Bloom-A-Long to the mixture to promote additional recovery and eventual blooming. Place in an eastern exposure as morning sunlight is desirable.
Bonsai Trees: Use as for orchids, more frequent watering or light misting usually required and at half rate, half a capful to 1 capful (2.5 - 5 ml) per litre of water.
Do not over water.
Hanging Baskets: The amount of coconut fibre or spaghnum moss at the base of your plant could determine the amount of fertility and watering that is needed. You may be losing valuable nutrients due to draining out of your container if the base is not sufficient with absorbent materials. Most hanging baskets require a heavier fertilization program due to leaching and loss of nutrients. Many of the hanging plant varieties can use the extra fertility. We suggest that you use up to 2 capfuls (10 ml) per litre of water every other week. Water on a consistent basis and avoid high temperatures in sunnier exposures.
Orchids: Some people shy away from orchids due to the expectation that they like lots of attention and are expensive. If you are an orchid lover you can achieve good results with some extra attention. With RainGrow 4-2-3 you will be using a reliable organic product and will obtain more consistent results. (Join an orchid society if you are smitten by their beautiful blooms and enjoy meeting others with the same passion.) Use in general at half rate, or half to 1 capful (2.5 - 5 ml) to a litre of water every two weeks, the volume per plant will depend upon the size of the container. You will probably need to water at least twice a week. Do not over water but keep damp at all times. If you are using the product as a foliar application use only half a capful to 1 litre of water. Spray on a daily or every other day routine. Spray leaves and stems but not the flowers and the extra nutrients will bring forth more consistent blooming. Place your orchids on a tray of stones or small pebbles and place water in the tray but keep your orchid pots above this water line. This will provide them with a little extra humidity and they will love you for it.
Ornamentals and Trees: Apply standard mixture (3 Tablespoons per gallon of water) around the roots starting from early Spring. If you are doing a lot of ornamentals or trees you may also want to use a hose-end spray applicator or a back pack sprayer and foliar spray the leaves. Foliar application can be done when the leaves are more developed usually in late April or May. Otherwise use 3 Tablespoons to a gallon of water and apply every 3-4 weeks or as needed.
Roses: Roses have been tested in scientific trials with RainGrow 4-2-3 and have been very successful on a every other week fertilization program with 2 capfuls (5 -10 ml) to a litre of water, or 3 Tablespoons per gallon of water. Make a mixture and apply around the roots. You can also mist your roses with RainGrow at half a capful to 1 capful (half tsp to 1 tsp) per litre of water of RainGrow as a foliar application. Roses also need extra magnesium, and epsom salts is an excellent source of magnesium that can be dissolved in water and applied around the roots, approximately half a teaspoon per gallon of water at the start of the season. It can also be dissolved in a solution containing RainGrow for convenience.
Succulents: Succulents including (Christmas Cactus and Yucca plants) tend to store water in their leaves. Some have a capacity to need less frequent watering. They are very resilient and live by the "less is more" concept. They are also hardier as long as the soil is not lacking in the basic nutrients, and can better tolerate poorer soils and lack of humus. They respond well to RainGrow 4-2-3 as the plant material component in the fertilizer assists in the uptake of nutrients. Fertilize approx. every 3-4 weeks during the growing and blooming seasons with 1-2 capfuls (5 - 10 ml) to a 1 litre of water. Some cacti need very little water and over watering will actually cause stress. Take the advice of your plant specialists at your local nursery if you are in doubt of watering frequency or fertility requirements.
Tropicals and Ferns: Use 1-2 capfuls (5 -10 ml) to 1 litre of water every 2 - 3
weeks. These are plants that require more misting than other house plants and they are very responsive to RainGrow 4-2-3. They like frequent misting even up to 2 times a day. Tropicals are always thirsty for moisture but not to the point of drowning. They like high humatic soil conditions so fertility is a must for these plants to thrive. These plants like cool feet or roots and they need above average watering. When misting with RainGrow use half a capful (2.5 ml) to a litre of water and watch your plants green up and bloom as in the Peace Lily.
Vegetable Garden: Use RainGrow 4-2-3 every 2 weeks during the growing season for best results. Dilute at 2 capfuls (10 ml) for every litre of water, or 1/3 cup to a 1 gallon watering can, or using the hose end application which is preset at 1 to 100 or 2 litres of RainGrow to cover approx. 2000 sq. ft (approx. 200 sq metres).
Flower Garden: Use RainGrow 4-2-3 every 2 weeks for the best results for your flower garden. Dilute at 2 capfuls (10 ml) for every litre of water, or 1/3 cup to a
1 gallon in a watering can. Or you may use a hose end spray applicator to cover up to 1000 - 2000 sq. ft (approx. 100-200 sq metres). Avoid spraying on delicate flower petals, but apply around roots, on leaves, or both. Bloom-A-Long is also very good to use on flowers at the base of the plant at a rate of 3 capfuls to 1 litre of water.
Lawn application: apply every 3 weeks, from early May till August for best results. Apply once in the Fall, in October. Use a spray applicator set at approximately 3 tablespoons per gallon of water, or 1:100. Also see our page on Lawns for great tips on natural lawn care. 2 litres of product will cover up to 2000 sq. ft. (approx. 200 sq. metres).
Transplants & Bulbs: See Bloom-A-Long
Caution: Please keep out of reach of children. Do not store mixed solution for more than one week as it may start to degrade.
Testimonials from Users:
I wanted you to know how impressed I am with your organic fertilizer. I started using the 4-2-3 in the last week of October, 2001. In the middle of December, my Aloe Vera started to bloom. I have had this Aloe Vera for 18 years, and never had a flower on it until I used your fertilizer. This summer, on the hottest day of the year (July 18th) I moved. I left my houseplants outside for a day and they were fried. I thought that I would lose about three quarters of them, but they all fully recovered after I gave them a good dose of 4-2-3. Less than a month later, my plants are thriving again, and I have another one flowering for the first time - a shamrock.
I had transplanted all of the outdoor plants from our previous residence.... I doused them with RainGrow at that time, and they thrived in pots until I tranplanted them into my new garden....I once again gave them a good watering with the RainGrow, and everyone one of them is doing beautifully. Even the ferns, the wildflowers and lilac bushes (which are supposed to be difficult to transplant) are doing really well.
In short, all of my plants, both indoor and outdoor, are more beautiful and healthier than they ever have been. I'm telling everyone how wonderful your fertilizer is because I am so incredibly impressed with the results.

We have been using both the 4-2-3 and Bloom A Long on our indoor and tropical plants and getting amazing results. Our gerberia in particular look incredible and have been blooming for a long time. We have also been using the 4-2-3 on our roses which are well developed and look fabulous after getting into a regular program of fertilizing with the 4-2-3. I totally swear by your products for indoor and tropical plants. I think that your product is truly a miracle of fertilizers.

I have been using your 4-2-3 organic fertilizer on stressed indoor and tropical plants at B. Dinter Nursery. I fertilize with it and and find the plants really benefit from this. They green up again and look healthy and shiny. I have also been using it to transplant houseplants and find it reduces or eliminates transplant shock. I'm very pleased with the results I get on indoor/tropical plants with the 4-2-3. I have also been using RainGrow's 4-2-3 on my vegetable garden at home. I start using it on the seedlings and continue when I plant outdoors and found that I had almost no slugs in my vegetable garden. Usually I put ice cream buckets over the new plants and this year I didn't have to do this as the slugs did not eat my product. I intend to use RainGrow again next year to see if I get the same results.

I have been retailing your products for two seasons now and have been using it myself to fertilize my plants at Mystic Woods. We have used the 4-2-3 as a regular foliar application on our roses and some of our trees. It has totally reduced diseases and insects on our roses and maple trees. We had no aphids or powdery mildew this year. Our roses looked great all season and we are very pleased with the results. All we are using now is 4-2-3.

Just thought I'd let you know how pleased I am with the RainGrow product you are distributing. I had an area of lawn that for a whole year was always sparse and never grew to my satisfaction. After speaking with you and how much you liked the product, I did a little test of my own.
I fertilized the rest of my yard with a top quality brand name product in the first week of May and it did as I expected. But the small area of lawn still looked as if it were three weeks old, very sparse and thin, I treated it with RainGrow 4-2-3 at 50:1, then again in the first week of June I did a 100:1 treatment. Well the small area of lawn has filled in and has a beautiful lush dark green to it. I was very impressed with the results and will continue to apply the product to the rest of my yard and other plants as well. Thanks for the tip on RainGrow.

I found some Hibiscus that were doing poorly - the leaves were yellowing and the plants didn't look too healthy. I mixed up the RainGrow 4-2-3 according to the directions and poured it right over the whole plants and did a second application 1 1/2 to two weeks later. Within a week after the second application the planted had greened right up and they had big blooms on them.

Last fall I started carrying your RainGrow 4-2-3 organic fertilizer in my shop in Mill Bay. At the advise of an associate I started using the product myself on my indoor and tropical plants in the store. Every second watering I use the 4-2-3 and I also do a foliar spray almost daily using 1/4 strength. I find that if I do a foliar spray on my cut greens, especially the madronna, they last longer and stay nice and shiny.
In the middle of winter I have new growth on all my plants and flowers and my azaleas are lasting forever. My peace lily is so green and lush customers think it is a silk plant. The lily is in a corner, getting no light and it has a lot of new growth and is flowering. We have also revived some sick mini roses with your product.
When customers comment on the condition of my plants I tell them I am using RainGrow 4-2-3 fertilizer and they want to purchase it right away. Everybody is impressed with your product; my customers, my plants and me.
Sincerely,
Hazel Yeo
